Angkor Fourball Championship 2017
Indian Cousins Make it 3 In-A-Row with Dramatic Finish at AGR
The formidable pairing of Indian cousins Amish Jaitha and Khusaal Thackersey played some inspired golf to overturn a 4 shot deficit from overnight leaders;Stephen Kennedy and Mark Penfold (Aus) to make it 3-in-a-row.
The Australians, lead by former World Long Drive Champion; Stephen Kennedy opened Day 1 with a Gross 68 (-4) and looked the team to beat but It wasn’t meant to be as the big hitting Aussies where left to rue a number of near misses on the greens of the Faldo Designed layout.
After a solid but unspectacular opening round of 72 the Indian pairing moved through the gears to force a 3 shot swing over the back 9. An inspired performance from Thackersey saw him make 7 birdies in his final round, finishing with a birdie 3 on the 18th hole to clinch victory by 1 stroke.
‘Today was incredible, everything just clicked into place and my approach play was extremely accurate, setting up a number of close range birdies. Amish is always extremely solid which allowed me to take advantage of my form and play aggressive from the start. I got off to a fast start making 4 birdies in the first 6 holes and 3 more over the finishing 4 holes whilst Amish maintained stability through the middle part of the round”.
The Net Championship was won by Singaporean pairing; Lim YitBeng and Hah Kee with a 2 round total of 129 (-15) to beat their nearest competitors by 4 strokes. The Ladies division was won by Cambodian golfres; Ms. Chan Sary Roth and Ms. TevySareoun with a 2 round score of 139 (-5)
“We’d like to congratulate all of the prize winners and pass on a special thank you to all of our partners and sponsors who help make these events so successful. To win 3 back-to-back titles is very Impressive. Khusaal and Amish are very established competitors and know each other’s game inside out making them very tough to beat. The better ball pairs format is always very popular and we look forward to further growing the event in the coming years”.
